[News] IFCE Earth Day Event: Celebrating 45th Earth Day Anniversary and Mr. Lester Brown\'s Life-time Achievements

International Fund for China’s Environment (IFCE) Celebrated the 45th Anniversary of

Earth Day and Life-time achievements of Mr. Lester Brown

The 2015 IFCE Earth Day Event was successfully held on April 21, 2015 at the World

Bank, Washington DC. The event commemorated the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, and

awarded Mr. Lester Brown, IFCE advisor, for his contribution to environmental activities in


First of all, IFCE vice chairman Tad Ferris delivered a welcome speech on behalf of IFCE;

then, Director of the Climate Change Department from the World Bank, Christian Gorssmann,

and Bin Li from Chinese Embassy, expressed their supports for the IFCE Earth Day Event and

China’s effort on climate change adaptation as a whole.

After that, IFCE advisor Mr. Lester Brown delivered a keynote speech on the great

transition of the world’s economy from fossil fuels to solar and wind energy. He pointed out the

leading role China plays in the development of new energy, not only on climate change

alleviation, but also on air pollution reduction. IFCE Board Director Nora Maccoby reviewed

Mr. Brown's great contribution to the world's environmental movement. Mr. Brown was

recognized as "the guru of the environmental movement." He is the founder of the Worldwatch

Institute (1974), and the Earth Policy Institute (2000). Mr. Brown has been engaged in

environmental protection and sustainable development activities for 50 years, with 54 book

publications and 25 honorary awards. Mr. Brown has served as IFCE advisor since 1998. Since

then, he has been actively participating in IFCE's activities, offering supports and guidance to

IFCE. To express our gratitude for Mr. Brown’s support, and to further affirm his contribution to

the world's sustainable development, IFCE President Dr. He Ping was honored to present the

Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Brown on behalf of IFCE.

Then, Miss Yabei Zhang, the World Bank energy economist, Mr. Ping Zhong, the Secretary

of Science and Technology at the Chinese Embassy and Dr. He Ping briefed on China's

environmental and energy issues, the World Bank's energy-saving projects in China, the latest

progress of Sino-US environmental cooperation and NGO development in China. They also had

a lively panel discussion with guests. Over 60 people from the World Bank, the U.S. Congress

and the U.S. government departments, energy and environmental think tanks and NGOs

participated in this event.
