Q: Why GWREF and why IFCE?
Opportunities are currently growing for international renewable energy suppliers to export their equipment and services to China, and form joint ventures with local manufacturers. In November 2005, China announced plans to double its reliance on renewable energy by 2020 and to provide 15% of its energy needs from non-fossil fuels within 15 years.Last year the People's Congress enacted the country's first renewable energy law, which promotes the use of alternatives to coal and oil.The country aims to produce 20 gigawatts of electricity from wind power by 2020. Several of the worlds leading solar PV and wind turbine manufacturers have begun to establish operations in China. Meanwhile, China is planning to double its investments in development of biofuel technologies in the next five years.
The Great Wall World Renewable Energy Forum (GWREF) is a high level symposium, being organized in accordance with the United Nations’ community cooperation principles for global renewable energy development. The GWREF represents a catalytic approach with a unique Chinese perspective to the realization of renewable energy development goals for both China and the world. GWREF’S organizers seek to foster international communication, and facilitate the development of global renewable markets.
The organizers of this event commit themselves to unrelenting efforts to make the GWREF a permanent and high-level platform to promote dialog between China and the international community on issues of global sustainable development. The conference will provide a forum to promote the exchange of ideas between the most influential leaders in the field of international renewable energy development and will promote general global cooperation for sustainable development. Q. Do Trade Shows work in China?
A. China has developed a love affair with trade shows and expositions. Every city of any size already has a large convention center or is building one. In many cases such as Beijing, they already have several and are building more. First time trade events attract a minimum of 25,000 attendees. Public shows regularly have attendance of a quarter to a half million people. The booming economy has created a voracious appetite for Western goods and services.
