| Third College Environmental Forum Held in Xian August 15-21, 2006 On August 15-21, 2006, more than 100 representatives from 60 environmental organizations from 21 provinces gathered in the ancient city of Xi'an to attend "the third Chinese university student environmental organizations cooperation forum"(CEF).The theme of the forum is "Development of the college student environmental organizations and sustainable campuses " . CEF was co-organized by Youth Enviro. Supporting Network of Shaanxi Province, the International Fund for China’s Environment, the China Environmental Culture Promotion Council and the event was hosted by ShaanxiNormalUniversity. It was the first time that the Chinese college students planned and implemented such an independent forum with nationwide participants. The first two forums were held under IFCE’s NGO Forum in 2003 and 2005. The 6-day forum was featured with capacity-building training, experience sharing 、thematic discussions, projects promotion and ecological field trip, etc. It was aimed at training student environmental leaders and improving their ability to coordinate student conservation projects and activities. The representatives established a network for environmental organizations of Chinese university campuses to promote resources conservation, information sharing, which would provide guidance to college students in environmental activities. Most attendees believed that they should transfer the current “society based” model to “campus based and to the community" model for student conservation activities. Sierra Club of US sent a student leader to the Forum to share their experience with Chinese students. Bailey Law Group also provided financial support. A few photos are attached.
