Goal
The Forum¡¯s goal is to strengthen communication and cooperation between Chinese and international NGOs, and thereby to promote public participation in China¡¯s biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
Objectives
- Share and exchange experiences on cooperative projects in environmental protection and conservation
- Address issues concerning biodiversity conservation and economic development in southwestern China
- Disseminate and discuss innovative methods and technologies in biodiversity conservation
- Discuss methods and strategies for developing NGOs in China
- Address issues in conservation education for women, children and college students
- Introduce international grant-making organizations to Chinese NGOs
- Conduct training workshops for NGO management and capacity building
- Foster formation of interest groups through networking and communication
- Discuss issues and collaborations of development and management of international rivers and watersheds
- Facilitate partnerships among NGOs and governments
- Enhance NGOs roles in the formation of the civil society in China
Program
The Forum consists of two-day training workshops, two-day panel presentations and discussions, one-day field trip and post¨CForum tours. A preliminary program in included in this document in Appendix I.
Language
Both Chinese and English will be spoken at the Forum and speakers will chose the language they feel most comfortable in making presentations.There will be translation services available.
Call for Abstracts
Abstracts on the conference topics and related topics are invited. Participants intending to serve as a panelist or speak at the conference are required to send in an abstract with about 300 words, in English or Chinese to the respective contact person for review before July 15, 2005 by email or fax. The abstract should clearly identify which Forum objective is being addressed, the presentation method (oral or poster), contact information including author(s) and address. Authors will be notified of their abstract¡¯s acceptance before July 31, 2005. All of the accepted abstracts will be published in the Forum proceedings. If an author wishes to submit a full paper (no more than 10 pages), he/she should submit it before Sept. 15, 2005.

Accommodation
Blocks of rooms at the hosting hotel(Lianyun Hotel) geared to different budgets will be reserved at a special rate for conference participants until Oct. 15, 2005. Further information will be sent to pre-registered participants and posted at the IFCE website www.ifce.org.
Post-Conference Tour
A one-week tour after the conference will be arranged.Two routes are suggested:
- Route 1Dali-Shangri-La-Lijiang (Seven days)
- Route 2Kunming-Nu River/Gorges (Six days)
