¡ùChinese Biodiversity Conservation Fund visited IFCE Invited by IFCE, a delegation from Chinese Biodiversity Conservation Fund visited US and Canada to study management of nature reserves and arboretums. On Dec. 26, 2004, the delegation visited IFCE main office in DC and met IFCE people. Both discussed the problems of managing nature reserves and possible cooperation. ¡ùIFCE Sponsored a Radio Environmental Education Program in Hubei IFCE sponsored a 30-minute weekly radio environ. education program on Hubei People's Broadcast Station, which covers around 60 million people. The program is broadcasting every Sunday from 1:30 -2:00pm. ¡ùPublished the electronic magazine "Chinese EnviroData Weekly". The main partners are Beijing Intellectual Power Consulting Co., Ltd. and Institute for Environment and Development, Beijing. 2002-2003 The weekly magazine covers latest environmental policies, regulations, activities, projects, activities and stories etc. in China. It is published in both Chinese and English. Seventy two people in DC area participated. A dozen of media including CCTV, Phoenix TV, Xinhua News, Chinese News Agencies, etc. covered the event. Mr. John Turner, the assistant Secretary of State of US for environment, ocean and science, addressed at the Forum. Mr. Jie Xu, the science counselor of the Chinese Embassy also spoke. Dr. Ping He gave a report on IFCE's development in the past six years and talked about the future focuses. Mr. Lester Brown gave keynote speech and he talked about the impact on foods due to falling water tables and expanding deserts in western China. The feature speaker, Dr. Wang, Tao, the chief scientist of the Chinese national key project on desertification control, delivered a presentation on desertification process, monitoring and control in north China. ¡ù US-China Children Environmental Art Competition, 2001 Partners: Hope Chinese
School, Washington DC The organizing committee received 133 pieces of paintings from China and USA. Forty-eight of them won 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards in two age groups. Among them nineteen are students in USA. The awarding ceremony was held in Rockville, Maryland on Oct. 21, 2001. More than 100 people including representatives from Chinese Embassy and US EPA attended the ceremony. The winners received cash prizes, medals and certificates. A number of local media covered the event, including TV program "Today's World". The sponsors included AEPCO Inc., Wen's Food and New York Life. ¡ù Establishment of the Children Environmental Art Educational Base (CEAEB) in Xian in 2000 IFCE and the Little Swan Art Troupe of Shaanxi jointly established the CEAEB in June 2000. It is the first of such kinds in China. More than twenty media covered the opening ceremony held in Xian on June 12. The goal of the CEAEB is to promote the concept of the sustainable development and nature conservation for children and the public through art education and public performance. To achieve its goal, the CEAEB plans to organize activities such as special performances for environmental festivals (such as "Green Dancing" show on CCTV on the World Environmental Day) and field trips to paint endangered species and nature heritage, to publish their art works on CD, to set up an environment educational web, and to organizing field survey trips to study biodiversity and nature conservation, etc. ¡ùCo-sponsored a book series on children environmental education in China in 2000 ¡ù Southwest Natural Resource and Environmental Management Training Center was established by IFCE and China Southwest Agricultural University and Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI) in Chongqing, China in 1998. The center provides training on advanced technologies to professionals in natural resources and environmental management in southwestern China. The center also supports research projects in the region, especially, in the three-gorge area to monitor and assess environmental changes. ¡ù Conducted a Seminar Series on China' Environmental Problems at the George Washington University. 1997-1998. IFCE invites speakers from China and US to discuss environmental and conservation issues in China. The topics covered endangered species protection, water resource management, environmental security, global climate changes, etc. |
