November 17 Shanxi Held the First Energy-saving Expo

In order to enhance public awareness of energy saving and disseminate new energy-saving technology, Shanxi Province held the first energy-saving expo with the theme of "the technology for reducing energy consumption, the achievement of emission reduction, the development of recycling economy and the construction of ecological economy in Shanxi Province."  The expo attracted a large number of the public.  This session of the expo was not only for propagating the importance of energy-saving, highlighting the ecological concepts, reflecting the achievement in environmental protection and the development of circular economy and the implementation of clean energy, but also to show the positive results of air pollution control, the recycling of industrial waste, as well as ecological construction of industrial development zones, construction of nature reserves, and other energy-saving practices.

November 17 ABB Chinese Enterprises are Promising in Energy-saving

On the three-day event of "ABB Technology Day" in Beijing, ABB chief technology officer TANG Wei Shi pointed out that there is only 20% of energy is effectively utilized from oil drilling to the end of the production supply chain in the current world, the rest 80% of energy is wasted.  From the global perspective, Chinese enterprises are promising in energy-saving, all sectors of Chinese users were expected to enhance productivity significantly and achieve energy efficiency by using leading electric and automation technology products and continue to reduce the business cost

November 18 Australia Willing to Strengthen Cooperation with China on Climate Change ( Sina News Network)

Huang Yingxian, the minister of Australian Climate Change and Water Resources Department, stated that Australia was willing to strengthen cooperation with China on climate change in Canberra on November 18th. On that day, Huang Yingxian had dialogue on climate change with Xie Zhenhua, the deputy director of China's National Development and Reform Commission. Huang Yingxian also pointed that, Australia and China faced many similar challenges on climate change.  As both are energy producing and consuming countries, they shared the same goals and interests on the development of clean energy technology.

November 18 12 Ministries to Hold International Expo on Energy conservation and Emission Reduction (Chinese Government News Network)

The Ministry of Science and Technology recently issued that a technology expo on International Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction will be held cooperatively by National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Railways, Government Offices Administration of the State Council, Chinese Academy of Science, China Technology Association in Beijing Exhibition Center from March 19 to 23, 2009.  Under the theme of the Technological Advancement to Energy Conservation, and Technology and Citizen's Livelihood, this expo will present the latest energy conservation and emission reduction technologies and products both at home and abroad. Furthermore, a summit will also be held to publicize related national policies and raise public awareness on energy conservation and emission reduction

November 19 China Is Expected to Play an Active Role in the United Nations Climate Change Conference

On November 17, Ivo Deboaier, the executive secretary of the U.N. secretariat, was interviewed by Xinhua News Agency.  He said that China is expected to play an active role in the United Nations Climate Change Conference which will be held in December 1 to 12 in Poznan, Poland.  In the international climate change negotiation process, China has been playing an active role. Not long ago, the Chinese government and the United Nations co-sponsored the seminar with the theme as 'technology development and transition in response to the climate change."  He believed that the Chinese delegation will bring the achievement of seminar to the Poznan meeting and China will play an active role in high-tech transition.

November 20 UK is the First Country Setting up the Goal of Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction through Legislation ( Xinhua News )

The UK House of Commons approved a bill on Nov.19 that it will cut down 80% of green house gas emission in 2050.  The UK is the first country to set up the energy conservation goal through legislation.  In order to give investors and policy makers a clear roadmap for energy conservation and emission reduction, having a carbon budget every five year is requested in the bill.  According to the bill, the government will found a Climate Change Commission as an independent organization to supervise the implementation of energy conservation and provide related guidance from experts. On the other hand, every five year, the government will submit a report to the UK House of Commons on the effects of climate change on our current and future status, and a plan of how to achieve the energy conservation goal

November 20 Challenge to Accomplish Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction ( Sina News Network)

In recent years, Dongguan city in Guangdong province has made some progress in energy conservation and emission reduction. The energy consumption per unit GDP declined 4.86% in 2006 and 5.36% in 2007, which largely fulfilled the target to cut down energy consumption 4.36% in per unit GDP within 2 yearsBut as the reconstruction and upgrading of local industry is still on the way, the city still faces great challenges in energy conservation and emission reduction. Therefore, the city will continue to boost the construction of the energy conservation census, inspection and evaluation, and to implement the strict accountability and veto system.
