BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China will audit energy consumption at public institutions annually starting this year, as part of efforts to achieve its energy conservation target for 2010. The cabinet, the State Council, will require government agencies and government-sponsored organizations to record their use of electricity, oil, gas, coal and heat, and to seek to reduce consumption, starting in October. They will be required to submit their energy conservation reports every March, starting next year. China's target is to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP growth by 4 pct per year during the 2006-10 period.
In the first half of this year, China's energy use per unit of GDP fell 2.88 pct, the National Bureau of Statistics said.
