IFCE, jointly with American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), organized two renewable energy executive tours to China from Oct. 17 to Nov. 2.
The wind energy tour, consisting of three tech firms and three organizations, visited Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Tianjin. In Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, the delegation met the officials from the provincial Development and Reforming Commissions (DRC) and visited their largest wind farms. Due to price constriction, three are few international investments in wind power generation in China. It is expected early next year, the national DRC will set up more detailed pricing policies to encourage investments and wind power generation. The delegation members were impressed by extensive wind resources in both regions. In Tianjin, the delegation visited Suzlon-China and the industrial zone.
The solar energy delegation, consisting of nine companies and four organizations, visited Baoding, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Wuhan and Shenzhen. In Baoding, they visited the Renewable Energy Industrial Base. The mayor Mr. Yu Qun, hosted the delegation and introduced their plan. He hoped to develop a long-term working relationship with IFCE/ACORE to develop renewable energy industry in Baoding. The delegation then visited Shanghai and Jiangsu. In Shanghai, they had a meeting with local officials and business reps. and visited two top-level solar companies. In Jiangsu, they visited SunTech Inc. in Wuxi and Canada Solar Firm in Suzhou. They also visited the industrial parks in Kunshan and Suzhou.
IFCE¡¯s offices in Wuhan and Shenzhen arranged the delegation¡¯s visits in these two cities. Besides meeting with government leaders, they visited several top-level solar energy tech firms. They also visited the PV project in YuanBoYuan of Shenzhen, a solar energy demo project in southern China.
Presently, most solar energy firms export their products to European and US markets. The solar power generation in China is limited. Most applications are water-heating and lighting. A number of cities begins to provide subsidiaries to encourage solar applications. With tech advancement and policy support, solar power will become one of key solutions to China¡¯s energy and environmental problems.
The tour members were very satisfied with the trip. They understood a lot better about China¡¯ markets, tech and policies in wind and solar energy development after the tours.
A few of them identified potential partners for further collaboration.
Promoting renewable energy development in China is one of the main objectives of IFCE in tech transferring. This was the second time IFCE organizing such visits.
